Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink

I have a beta Wink account, it’s early days, but the first thing that didn’t happen for me is that all my del.icio.us tags did not get sync’d. Seemed like only the lat 30 tagged links came over, with their associated tags.

That aside, it looks like it has legs…

What is Wink? In their words…with spelling errors ;-)

“Wink is a search engine. It provides great Google results, but it also gives you the freshest information on the web by serving up the most relevant taggged links for your search. We crawl and index tags from all over the web, and serve them up with web results, for a combination of freshness and accuracy. We also include other user-contributed content, such as answers from Wikipedia or the Wink Wiki, which is added by people like you.

Wink also allows you to "tag" your results. A tag is similar to a bookmark, but it allows you also annotate that bookmark with words that you associate with that site. For instance, if you tagged www.kodak.com, you could notate it with the terms "camera", "photography" and "film". Your tags are stored in your "My Page", so if you want to then go look at all the sites you use for photography, www.kodak.com and any others that you have tagged will be there.”

I'm considering OpenOffice, and after not a lot of digging, I've starting to get concerns balancing 'free' versus 'time' when it comes to performance of OO 2.0. Guess next step is to install, and look for myself.

DAB Radio - very nice

A replacement device was needed for the kitchen. A Roberts had the right price/features/form factor. It's in place, and though we don't get the full range of stations, we get all of what we want :-).

The sound quality (at least of our choice of stations) is excellent, and surpasses FM.

Google Web Accelerator - No thanks

Seems the next beta is/was out; "Google Web Accelerator works with your browser to help web pages show up in a snap". Some say GWA no longer identifies itself in the browser header. GWA is a tool I wont be using.

It portrays a confrontation between disgruntled customer Mr. Eric Praline (played by John Cleese), and a shopkeeper (Michael Palin), who hold contradictory positions on the vital state of a Norwegian Blue parrot. The skit pokes fun at the many euphemisms for death used in English culture. The sketch aired in the eighth episode of the television series.

Yet Another (Visual) Search Engine

If you like a cartographic approach to your search results, try Kartoo. I can't vouch for it's results, nor can I say I find the UI useful navigational metaphor me (that said, I do love mind mapping!). Fun to play with for a while. A weighty Flash navigator makes use of the bandwidth more & more "Web 2.x" apps assume you have.

On the subject of YASE, I would, however, suggest you take a second third look at Exalead.

Then look out for Sphere, YA(Blog)SE.

Initial test shots with my new Sony T7. Macro capability is amazing...moth shot through the window, the camera is about 15mm (including the glass) from the moth. Camera angled slightly to avoid flash bounce directly off the glass.
